Real-Time Flight Tracking for Every Journey

Departra is a flight companion built for modern travellers. Whether you are heading to the airport, waiting at the gate, or tracking a loved one's journey home, Departra gives you the information you need in a clean, fast interface that works on any device.

We pull together data from multiple aviation sources to show you real-time flight positions, departure and arrival times, gate assignments, and weather conditions. Our departure boards cover hundreds of airports worldwide, from major international hubs like London Heathrow, Dubai International, and JFK to regional airports across the UK and Europe. Each airport page includes terminal guides, transport links, and practical tips that help you navigate the airport with less hassle.

Flight tracking on Departra uses ADS-B data from a global network of volunteer receivers. This means you see aircraft positions as they happen, not delayed by minutes. Combined with schedule data and weather forecasts from official aviation weather services, you get a comprehensive picture of your flight's status without needing to switch between multiple apps or websites.

We built Departra because existing flight trackers are cluttered with features most travellers never use. Our focus is on clarity: show the essential information first, and let you dig deeper if you want to. No account required, no app to install. Just search your flight number and you are on your way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about flight tracking on Departra

How do I track a flight in real time?

Enter the flight number (for example, BA494 or EK201) into the search box at the top of the page and press enter. Departra will show you the aircraft's live position on a map, along with departure and arrival times, altitude, speed, gate information, and weather at both airports. If the flight has not yet departed, you will see the scheduled departure time and current conditions at the origin airport.

What does flight status "en route" mean?

"En route" means the aircraft has departed from its origin airport and is currently airborne, travelling towards its destination. On Departra, an en-route flight will have a live position on the map that updates every few seconds. You will also see the estimated arrival time, current altitude, and ground speed. If the flight is delayed, the estimated time will reflect the most recent data available from ADS-B tracking and schedule sources.

How accurate is live flight tracking?

Live positions on Departra come from ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast), a system where aircraft broadcast their GPS coordinates via transponders. A global network of volunteer ground receivers picks up these signals and feeds them into open databases. In areas with good receiver coverage — most of Europe, North America, East Asia, and Australia — positions are typically accurate to within a few hundred metres and update every 1 to 5 seconds. Over oceans and remote regions, coverage may be limited or unavailable until the aircraft comes within range of a receiver.

Can I track a flight without the flight number?

If you do not have the flight number, you can browse departure boards for specific airports. Visit our airports directory to find the airport, then check the departures page for a list of scheduled flights. You can also use the live map to see all aircraft currently being tracked in a particular area. If you know the airline, visit the airlines directory to browse popular routes operated by that carrier.

What is ADS-B flight tracking?

ADS-B stands for Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast. It is a surveillance technology where an aircraft determines its position via GPS and periodically broadcasts it, enabling it to be tracked. ADS-B transponders are now mandatory on most commercial aircraft worldwide. The "Automatic" part means no pilot input is needed; "Dependent" means it relies on the aircraft's own GPS; "Surveillance" is the tracking function; and "Broadcast" means the signal is sent openly, so anyone with an appropriate receiver can pick it up. This openness is what makes community-powered tracking services like Departra possible.

How far in advance can I track a flight?

Schedule information for most commercial flights is available on Departra as soon as airlines publish their timetables, which is typically several months in advance. However, live tracking (the map, altitude, and speed data) only becomes available once the aircraft's ADS-B transponder is active, which usually happens a few minutes before pushback. For the best experience, search for your flight on the day of travel — you will see the schedule first, and the live position will appear automatically once the aircraft begins transmitting.
